RIDE COORDINATOR'S MESSAGE |
ROMAN NOSE HILLS TRAIL RIDE 2013 Ride Date April 19-20-21 Watonga, Oklahoma Phone: 580-623-4322 |
You are invited to participate in this legendary ride that keeps the historical tradition of Western Oklahoma alive and vibrant. If this is your first time, expect a very structured and social event bonding horse, rider and nature. Our great volunteers bring guests comfort, great food, entertainment, and work to continually expand our trail system across the Gypsum Hills of Roman Nose Canyon. In 1999, the late Byron Wolfe approached me to continue his efforts in promoting the equestrian usage of Roman Nose State Park. He had sponsored a series of charitable trail rides on his property adjacent to Roman Nose State Park with various success, but always there was a shortage of volunteers. As a board member of the Watonga Hospital Foundation, he asked me to chair his efforts to create this charitable event to benefit the hospital. We just completed our 24th ride which broke all registration and proceeds records. We had just over 230 horses on-site. With our past experience, we handled this large group without any problems. Everyone bragged on the food again. Ralph Chain from the Chain Ranch gave a great presentation of Western history that held the attention of most. Our Saturday night auction took profits over the top. T-shirts again sold out completely. We encourage reserving your size with you pre-register. We are trying to encourage photo exchanges so visit our Facebook page which is Roman Nose Hills Trail Ride @ Facebook. Your input is appreciated! |
Most trails are dirt base but we are now riding more on gypsum rock ledges and encourage shoes on horses unless your horses are barefoot conditioned. We encourage helmet usage for riders. Our last event went without injury requiring treatment. But we have had to call in ambulance and medical helicopters before. We carry liability coverage for the Foundation only and are not responsible for medical expenses incurred. Feel free to contact me by email or call me at 405-509-0439. We ask for pre-registration for meal count purposes only. All fees are paid at registration. Our registration fee is very reasonable for 3 days of food and riding, $50. Non riders buy a $25 meal ticket and enjoy the relaxation. Jeff Fritz, Ride Coordinator |
