Ne Vistas!
Welcome to the Roman Nose Hills Trail Ride!
As trail leader coordinator, I would like to take this
opportunity to tell you about the trail ride.
We are privileged
to have access to several private ranches as well as Roman Nose
Park property. We have a variety of trails that cross pastures, canyons, and bluffs.
The Wolfe Ranch ride is primarily Friday evening. This is the location of the main camp.
The ranch offers some spectacular bluff views, open land and canyons. There are some creek
crossings and if weather allows and the trails aren't boggy, we can access part of what's called Cat
Canyon.
Saturday offers gaited, all day rides and short rides. We split the rides up to avoid traffic.
The park ride goes onto the park trails to Inspiration Point and lunch at the group camp. These trails
are rocky and horse shoes are needed. There are a couple of creek crossings. The trails follow the
bluff rims and goes through the trees. The other rides ride across private ranches through the upper
canyons, tree trails, and pastures with several creek crossings and lunch at Half
Way Café. These
trails are only available to this ride and are greatly appreciated. On Sunday, we switch destinations,
so everyone has an opportunity to ride all the trails.
This wouldn't be possible without all the volunteers. I would like to thank all of them for their assistance and time.
We spend several Saturdays prior to the ride working trails. This gives the trail leaders and drag riders a chance to learn
the trails. If you would like to join this group, we would love to have you. Due to illness and other obligations, not every
trail leader is available. We need competent people to fill their shoes and with the growth of the ride, we will need more
leaders so that we can keep the group numbers at a safe and enjoyable riding experience for everyone. We, also, need
volunteers in other capacities, so you don't have to be a horseperson to help. Come camp, eat and enjoy yourselves.
Bring your fishing poles, golf clubs, mountain bikes, or walking shoes and enjoy the park facilities while your family or
friends ride.
Remember to treat all participants with respect. Many are riding green broke horses or aren't experienced
riders. Remember your trail etiquette and have a great time. Click here to read specifics about guided rides.
